There are federal, state and other incentives to help you pay for or benefit from your solar system.

Going Solar Incentives

Federal, state, and local governments understand the importance of sustainable energy and the high costs associated with traditional power sources. That’s why, in many cases, incentives can save customers well over 50% on the cost of energy.

Federal Tax Credits

The solar investment tax credit (ITC) is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the income taxes that a homeowner claiming the credit would otherwise pay the federal government. The ITC is based on 30% on solar installed in 2022-2032. On leased systems, SunPower® collects this incentive and passes the savings on to the customer. Don’t wait, prices for solar equipment are on the rise!

How solar works to power the grid and earn you credits.

State Incentives

California and Nevada offer incentives for solar. In California, solar panels on your home increases its value up to 20 times your annual energy bill savings. Through 2024, new solar installations will be subject to no additional property taxes based on their assessed value. In both states, net energy metering (NEM) can provide credits to homeowners for the extra electricity their panels add to the electricity grid. Ask us about other state or local incentives.

Solar builds home value

Build Home Value

A solar system is a capital improvement which adds to the property’s value. You can may sell your home faster and for more than homes without solar. Your investment in solar also adds to its tax basis. Upon selling, the tax basis investment can be deducted from the sale price, which reduces the profit. This lessens the sales taxes and you may avoid capital gains taxes.

*Ask your representative about which incentive you’re eligible to receive. Please consult a tax advisor on your ability to claim these nonrefundable tax credits.
